- By:groshan fabiola
The cancer of your lymph system is called lymphoma. Hodgkin' s disease and non Hodgkin' s disease are the two types of lymphoma that a person might suffer from. When lymph cells change and grow in an un regular manner, they can turn into tumors, thus lymphoma.
The Hodgkin' s lymphoma affects the lymph nodes that are found in your neck, behind your breastbone or the ones found between your lungs. These are the most common area when this type of lymphoma begins. Other lymph nodes that can be affected by the Hodgkin' s lymphoma are those found in your abdomen, under your arms or those in your groin area. The most common places that Hodgkin' s lymphoma affect when this condition starts to spread are the liver and spleen. Other parts of your body may be affected by this type of lymphoma as well, but these are less common cases. However, because everybody has lymph tissues throughout their body, this type of lymphoma can start from almost any area of your body and thus spread to almost all organs in your body.
Hodgkin' s lymphoma can affect both children and adults as well. Treatment is different in both of these case. If lymphoma occurs in people that have AIDS, then treating this disease is different in thier case as well. Hodgkin' s lymphoma is divided into five types, based on how they appear under microscope. These types of Hodgkin' s lymphoma can be:
- mixed cellularity lymphoma;
- nodular sclerosis lymphoma;
- lymphocyte-rich classical lymphoma;
- lymphocyte depletion lymphoma;
- nodular lymphocyte-predominant lymphoma;
This lymphoma type, Hodgkin' s lymphoma also has some risk factors. Age is one of the risk factors in this type of lymphoma. If you are in your early or late adulthood, then you are more at risk of developing this condition. Furthermore, men are more at risk of developing this type of cancer than women are. Genetics is also a risk factor in Hodgkin' s lymphoma case. If one of your first degree relative suffers from this condition, then you might have it as well. Epsin Barr virus is also considered a risk factor in this condition. If you are infected with this virus, you are more likely to develop Hodgkin' s lymphoma.
Hodgkin' s disease also has symptoms that can tell you when something is wrong. However, these symptoms may be similar to those of other medical conditions as well, so a doctor should be seen.About the author:
