Do You Really Need To Take Extra Vitamins? How To Know For Sure
- By:Ron Heller
There are millions of people around the world, especially in North America, than consume vitamins daily. They just go to the drug store, health store on supermarket, buy some kind of vitamin the THINK they need, and start taking it daily ,without and counseling with anyone.
Many others take multivitamin pills, which in my opinion is a better way, because the amounts of vitamins in a multivitamin pill are less than in single vitamin pills.
But is this all necessary? Do we really need to consume vitamins daily, in addition to what we already get from out food?
A simple blood test will show that the answer is no. Most of us don't need and additional vitamins to add to our body. The illusion of us lacking vitamins is in many cases created by some powerful advertising campaign, and not by a true need.
In fact, you should know that there are 2 types of vitamins: water soluble vitamins B and C vitamins family. The surplus from these vitamins is washed away from the body every day, so there is not much harm in taking them (but not a lot of good, if you don't lack them). The second group is fat soluble - vitamins A, D ,E and K, which are stored in the body, and therefore too much of them may cause toxic results.
So, as you can see, the over consumption of vitamins can cause damage.
There are, of course, cases where you need to take vitamins. These cases include:
1. Your nutrition is lacking certain ingredients and therefore you need to supplement it with vitamins.
2. Your body is not able to absorb/manufacture the vitamin so you need to provide more of it, to balance the shortage you already have.
3. You have a disease that you need to combat, and some vitamins will help you do. For example, vitamin C is used to fight having a cold.
These are very specific cases where you need to take vitamins, and you will do best to do that under medical supervision. It is advised that you contact your doctor before you start taking any vitamins on your won. The doctor can run the proper tests and determine what it is exactly that you need and then prescribe the vitamins to you.
This way you can always be sure that you are getting the best fitted vitamins that relate to your condition and not just making the vitamin promoters rich, and possibly damaging yourself.
