Strength training for losing weight

By:Robert Baird Baird

In the recent times, one of the major problems that have plagued the medical fraternity and human society as a whole is the grave dangers of obesity and with an increasing number of people falling victim to its evil claws, there is little time left before obesity would take epidemic proportions. It is even more distressing to notice that despite the awareness regarding the ill effects of obesity and its adverse effects, the percentage of overweight individuals continue to increase considerably. In fact in the United States of America , it has been estimated that while 65% of the population is highly overweight, only 5% are actually successful in their endeavor to lose weight. The rest are either ignorant or lazy or there are some others who in their bid to lose weight rapidly indulge in the various useless weight loss supplements that are available in the market and are unable to lose weight on a long term basis. The reason behind this is that these supplements often cause water loss from the body and thus give the consumer an illusion of losing weight. The moment the supplement is abandoned, weight gain is consequent. Therefore, one must return to the most effective means of weight loss which is by means of rigorous physical training and exercising as this along with a balanced diet can ensure long term weight loss. Strength training is a very effective means by the use of which individuals can effectively retain their perfect body weight and ensure that no weight gain is possible. Strength training refers to a rigorous exercising regimen and is therefore an activity which is abandoned by many because of the amount of hardship one has to undergo. However, it is doubtless that it is extremely helpful in aiding weight loss and also help in preserving good health by ensuring development of the muscles and bones and also help in regulating cholesterol levels and the functioning of the heart.

It is necessary to note that in case of strength training an apparent weight gain is mandatory as this form of exercising leads to the development of muscles and therefore muscle building can cause addition on body weight. However, this does not imply an increase in the fat content which can contribute to obesity and hence is not harmful. Jogging, abdominal crunches and sit ups are certain forms of strength training which can aid extensively in causing weight loss.
