Caring For Your Precious Vision
- By:rejina kelis
Wearing sunglasses during summers protects your eyes from harmful Ultra Violet (UV) radiations, it’s just like wearing a seatbelt to protect from accidents. You always need to wear sunglasses which have ultraviolet protection when going out in sun. These Ultra Violet radiations cause long-term damages not only to your eye’s inner structures but also to the skin. Hence wearing sunglasses will help to prevent problems like macular degeneration and cataracts. A macular degeneration is a disease of the eye in which the macula, which is a structure within the eye that helps you to see, slowly deteriorates causing decreased vision or even blindness. Do you know that actually smoking puts your eyes at a greater risk for developing macular degeneration? A cataract is a condition of the eye where the eye’s lens becomes clouded and the vision is affected.
You should care for your precious eyes by wearing a protective eyewear like goggles; whenever you play games or when you're doing something in workshop classes or science laboratory when it deals with hazardous substances. It would take a second for an object to hit an exposed eye and cause very serious damage. You should never go near fireworks that could burst and damage your eyes. So why do you need to take a risk? Here is something which affects millions of people; it’s the eyes that are staring the computer screens for a long period of time! This is because normally people blink nearly 10 times every minute, but when you sit before the computer, your blink rate goes to two or three times per minute! So the best thing that you can do for your eyes is to blink as frequent as possible. You also need to change your focus repeatedly. Try looking at something which is far in the room for a few seconds and then you can go back looking at the computer’s screen.
If you feel if your eyes are dry and irritated when seeing computer, you can try using something called ‘artificial tears’. NEVER use products that eliminate redness from your eyes, because this will contain a chemical which removes redness for a short term but later makes your eyes look worst! It is always important to take special care of your eyes. If you have any medical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or diabetes; this will put your eyes in more risk of developing major eye problems which may result in blindness. Check with your family doctor at least once in six months, to confirm that your eyes are healthy.
