How Does LASIK Work?

LASIK is a relatively simple procedure that has helped millions across the globe experience new and improved vision. LASIK Step One: Creating the Corneal Flap
While LASIK technology can vary from one LASIK provider to another, all LASIK procedures are a two-step process. In step one, the LASIK surgeon creates a corneal flap on the surface of your cornea. Originally, the corneal flap was created using a microkeratome, or blade. At Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center, Dr. David Kleiman and Dr. Anthony Evangelista have eliminated the need for a blade by investing in Blade-Free HD IntraLASIK. This new, advanced approach to great vision minimizes complications and increases precision by using a laser to create the corneal flap.
LASIK Step Two: Reshaping the Cornea
Poor vision is caused by an improperly shaped cornea. Corneas that are too steep (nearsightedness) or too flat (farsightedness) cause your eye's point of focus to rest in front of or behind the retina. To correct this, Dr. David Kleiman and Dr. Anthony Evangelista use an excimer laser to reshape your cornea.
In step two of the LASIK procedure, the corneal flap is folded back to allow access to the cornea. From here, the excimer laser quickly and precisely reshapes the cornea so that the focal point correctly hits the retina. Once complete, the corneal flap is allowed to fall back into place, where it will heal without the need for stitches.
