During the reflux, the flap that covers the esophagus becomes weak, and it allows for the acid in the stomach to travel backwards up the esophagus into the throat. The acid damages the esophagus and causes a lot of pain.
People who suffer from acid reflux are people who over eat, smokers, non-exercising people, pregnant women, small children, and even new born babies can suffer from this reflux. However, by avoiding certain foods and having a proper consultation with a doctor acid reflux can be reduced.
Treatments for acid reflux include medicine, herbal remedies, special pillows, and surgeries. The medicines are extremely strong and can end up becoming detrimental to the person taking them. The most common choice for treating acid reflux is by going all natural. People who change their diet and others who add special herbs to it tend to get good results.

Eating in intervals throughout the day tends to keep the digestive system process in check. Drinking plenty of water, like eight to ten glasses a day, keeps the body flushed from impurities. What you put into your body determines what you can expect to get out of it. So take care in choosing what you eat to avoid acid reflux disease.
