How to Prepare for your Day at the Tanning Salon
- By:Wes Cox
"Many people think that going to the indoor tanning salon requires nothing more than just getting up and going. However, you should prepare for your day at the tanning salon so that you can get the best results from the experience. Don’t worry; preparing for indoor tanning doesn’t take a lot of time or money. In fact, preparing for indoor tanning can actually be an enjoyable part of the overall tanning experience because it helps you relax and get in the mindset for the indulgence of the tanning salon. It primarily involves taking care of your skin and making sure that you have the right products for indoor tanning.
The biggest part of preparing for the tanning salon is making sure that you take care of your skin. This involves exfoliating your skin so that it’s as fresh and new as possible and will tan more easily. It also involves making sure that your skin is properly moisturized so that the indoor tanning doesn’t dry out your skin and cause damage. Hopefully exfoliation and moisturizing are already part of your daily self-care routine. But if not, it’s okay; there’s no time to start like the present.
To properly exfoliate your skin in preparation for tanning, you should make it part of your daily routine. Keep a loofah or bath sponge in your shower and use it regularly on your skin. You may also want to use exfoliating creams or soaps to enhance the skin exfoliation. For roughened parts of your skin, such as the soles of your feet or your elbows, you may want to use something like a pumice stone. However, you shouldn’t make your skin excessively raw right before tanning. The idea is to exfoliate to bring the freshest skin to the fore. You don’t need to exfoliate the day of tanning, but it should be part of your regular routine and may be done the night before.
The other part of skin care for tanning preparation is making sure that your skin is moisturized. Use a tanning lotion that is safe for indoor tanning to help moisturize your skin. There are tanning lotion products that can be used daily because they are low-level products intended for regular use. Use these tanning lotions or your standard moisturizers to keep your skin hydrated regularly. Before tanning, make sure to follow the instructions on the tanning lotions that you’ll be using specifically for the tanning bed. For example, some tanning lotions require that you put them on the night before the tan for tanning in the morning. You’ll know from the instructions and from the tanning practices that you’ve worked out with your professional salon staff what the right practices are for you.
Making sure that you have the right products for tanning is a crucial part of this preparation process. You don’t want to use products that cause your skin to be sensitive, especially to light. And you do want to make sure that you are using the right tanning lotions in the right combinations. Do your background research and then remember to prepare before you go to tan. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated. And then relax; tanning should be fun!"
