Xenical - Adding Potential to Your Health

By:Christine Edge

Xenical is a gelatin capsule that comes in deep blue color with soft blue shades. The basic ingredient of these capsules is orlistat. And the amount of orlistat contained in each of these capsules is 120 gm. However, the main aim of these capsules is to reduce extra weight and cure obesity. Like any other weight loss medicine it does not suppress the appetite. Infact, it slows down the dietary fat absorption in the stomach.

Besides orlistat, Xenical also have inactive ingredients like sodium starch glycolate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium laury1 sulfate, povidone and talc.

This medicine prevents the fat from being accumulated by inhibiting the enzymes called lipases, in the stomach. Basically, fats are broken down by the lipases. The fat that collects in the stomach after the intake of the high calorie meal is called as triglycerides. Now, unless lipases break them down into fatty acids, it cannot get mixed up into the blood. Intake of Xenical prevents this break down and the triglycerides that remain undigested are released through the stool. The result is reduced calorie intake that ultimately helps in weight loss.

However, there are a few facts that should be taken into account before taking Xenical. The factors are as follows:

• This medicine can be taken only if the person is overweight and have obesity problem. Obesity is measured by calculating the Body Mass Index (BMI).
• The person should not be allergic to any kind of other medicines, foods and preservatives.
• The person should not lack proper vitamins.
• The person should not have kidney stones and stomach ulcer.
• Any kind of nerve disorder in the past should be brought into the doctor’s notice
• The person shouldn’t have indecent eating habit.
• Lastly, the person should not have any kind of problem related to kidney, liver, stomach and heart.

Whatever the factors may be but the vital point is that Xenical should be taken strictly under the supervision of the doctors. In fact this medicine should be taken along with a well balanced diet, like more of fruits and vegetable, which contains approx 30% calories from fat. Sometimes doctors even recommend to take multivitamin supplement regularly, that contains vitamin A, D and E. Also correct measure of regular exercising is recommended along with the intake of Xenical. However, most importantly, this medicine is totally for the adults above 18 years and strictly not for the children.

Besides reducing weight and treating obesity, Xenical has other benefits too. They are as follows:

• Reduces high blood pressure
• Reduces high cholesterol
• Reduces the chance of diabetes
• Reduces the risk of heart disease
