Accutane: Acne Killer Or Dangerous Drug?
- By:Paul Rhodes
A natural cure for acne will be one that has products in it that are not man made but naturally occurring in the world. These products can be virtually anything as long as they are non toxic to the body. Many natural acne skin care products are the best for your body as the body already knows how to work with these natural substances and therefore can be better suited for you.
Oral Tetracycline is one of the most popular oral acne medications. Moderate to severe acne may be treated with an initial dose of 500 to 1000 mg per day in a decreasing dosage as skin condition improvement is noted. This antibiotic is not for pregnant women since it can cause skeletal defects to her unborn child. Children under 8 years are also not advised to be given this medication. Oral Minocycline and Doxycycline are derived from tetracycline. Research shows that these acne medications are more effective than tetracycline. Doxycycline is reported to induce sunlight sensitivity. Both are advised not to be taken by pregnant women. Oral Erythromycin is an acne medication that may be taken as an alternative to tetracycline since it is safer for pregnant women and young children.
The acne can also be treated externally by using erythromycin or benzoyl peroxide. While this reduces the bacteria causing the problem, it is really treating the symptoms rather than the cause. That is, the oil secretion and abnormal cell behaviour that blocks the follicle in the first place. So unfortunately, the acne will usually reappear within some weeks of the treatment being stopped.
Acne affects, according to some, up to 95% if teenagers at some time in their teen or early adult years. It can be serious and debilitating, mild and easy to control, or usually somewhere in between. The market for acne cures is huge, billions of dollars.
While, benzoyl peroxide can be used for short-term treatment of mild acne in the US, its long-term use has the potential to damage skin. On the whole, safer options that allow natural resolution of acne are recommended. Natural alternatives to benzoyl peroxide are calendula or tea tree oil. Psidium guajava and Juglans regia leaf extracts were found to be beneficial in treating acne. Granulysin peptides were also found to be effective against P.acne and may form an alternative therapy against acne in future.
Over the years studies have suggested everything from chocolate, candy, fried foods, sugar, drinking water, orange juice to milk can cause you to develop acne or make existing acne worse. However there is no scientific evidence to support any such results. There are so many factors effecting acne development that it is very difficult to isolate any one cause. So whether or not to avoid certain foods or drinks is really just an individual preference. If you find your skin reacts negatively to certain foods, then just don’t eat or drink it.About the author:
