The most frequently used methods for lowering the high cholesterol levels are healthy diets and proper physical exercises. In cases when the condition is caused by a genetic factor, the cholesterol accumulation requires medication. It is good to know that high cholesterol levels might also be caused by the liver hyperactivity or internal dysfunctions. For this type of patients an appropriate diet, frequent physical exercise or lifestyle improvements are not enough for normalizing blood cholesterol values.
As we said before we can talk about many factors when it comes to relieving the factors that might lead to high cholesterol levels. Among these factors are included improper diets, sedentary lifestyle, smoking or alcohol abuse. Age, gender and genetic heritage can also be major factors that may lead to overproduction or insufficient elimination of cholesterol.
It is good to know that high cholesterol levels are usually seen in persons that have passed 50 and that men develop higher levels of cholesterol than women. It was noticed that a post-menopausal woman has higher blood cholesterol levels than young men.
It was also proved in studies that genetic heritage, or persons with a family history of cardiovascular diseases are usually prone to develop heart disease because of the cholesterol levels.
Cholesterol is a necessary substance that helps the organism in developing hormones such as testosterone and estrogen, vitamin D and bile. Bile is a very important substance that helps in burning fats. Cholesterol is secreted in small amounts by the liver. In excess, this substance might cause damage for the arteries, tissues or other body organs. The problems occur because cholesterol is not a soluble substance and it might deposit leading to a clogging of the coronary arteries.
The main advice for solving this problem is to keep a good diet. Even if it doesn’t always overcome cholesterol problems, a proper diet can considerably reduce the high cholesterol levels. A diet rich in complex carbohydrates, natural fibers or unsaturated fat will surely normalize your cholesterol levels, while saturates fat can increase its levels. Fruits and vegetables are also recommended.About the author:
