DIVERTICULITIS CAN STRIKE WITHOUT CAUTION

The root cause of diverticulitis is a condition known as diverticulosis. Diverticulosis is a condition where small and protruding pouches form in the digestive. It is very common for people older than 40 to have diverticulosis and around more than half of the population of most the countries have diverticulosis. The formation of these small pouches can form anywhere in the digestive tract. Although diverticula is capable of forming in any part of the digestive system including the esophagus, small intestine and stomach, the most affected part is the large intestine. However these small pouches are generally harmful and hardly ever cause any problem. Many people do not even know that they have them. These are mostly hidden Diverticulitis Symptoms
Though they are not much harmful, there are chances of these small pouches to become infected or inflamed. Diverticula get infected if bacteria or waste material of the body is trapped in it. Infection in diverticula causes a number of irregularities including harsh pain in the abdominal area, fever, nausea and problem in passing bowel. A mild case of Diverticulitis is easily curable with only a bit of rest with antibiotics and regulated diet required to do the trick. However a more complicated as well as recurring case of diverticulitis is not only quite painful but also may require a surgery.
The reason for formation of diverticula is unknown to the doctors. However it is assumed that diverticula are formed when there is a pressure exerted on the weak places of the colon. If the pressure increases then there is every chance of breaking down of the wall of the diverticula which certainly leads to an infection. It is suggested that people should eat more high fiber food as prevention from developing a diverticula. The fiber content in the form of fruits and vegetables softens the waste material and hence eases the pressure on the colon. In addition to fiber one should also consider drinking a lot of fluids. Fiber absorbs water to make the waste product soft. So if there is not enough intake of water then eating excess fiber may result in to constipation which exerts more pressure on the colon.
However not everyone with diverticulosis develops diverticulitis. This is a more ironic situation and one can never know that they maybe on the verge of having the disease. Diverticulitis strikes without any caution and can occur to anyone at anytime. Most of most what one can do is to include lots of fiber content and water in the diet.About the author:
