Most of us have probably heard about hernia, but many can not explain what it is. Well, hernia is actually the protrusion of a tissue or an organ through an opening that is found in your body. The majority of hernia cases happen when a portion of the intestine finds its way through a weak spot in your abdominal walls. A hernia creates a bulge that the person can both feel as well as see it. There are two ways that you can suffer from a hernia: either you were born with it or it can develop during a period of time. The target area for a hernia is the groin. The locations where you have suffered from an incision are also hernia targets.

Hernia is a very common medical condition that poses little to no problems at all. In fact one of the most common procedures of surgery performed by doctors all over the world is hernia repair. From all the types of hernia that a person may have, the inguinal hernia is the most common. This hernia occurs in the groin area. If hernia happens in other parts of your abdomen, the proper name would be femoral hernia or also known as umbilical hernia. The most highly situated hernia is the hiatal hernia. This actually happens when some parts of your stomach push through your diaphragm.

To repair a hernia is one of the most common and rather easy surgical procedures. An incision has to be made in your groin area to repair a hernia. After this, if your hernia is actually bulging out of your abdominal walls, all doctors have to do is push the bulge back into its place. On the other hand, if the hernia is down your inguinal canal, the hernia is either pushed back in its place or it can also be removed. This is the procedure an open repair of hernia.

Laparoscopic repair of hernia can also be used. The person that is given this hernia repair must be given anaesthesia first. In this hernia procedure, doctors make a very small incision in your abdomen, right under the belly button. Then, in this hernia procedure, the abdomen must be inflated with carbon dioxide so your organs can be separated. This way the doctor will actually see more clear inside the abdomen. There are more types of laparoscopic repair of hernia.
