In order to better fight and better understand this terrible disorder a lot of tests and studies are being made through out the world. People are confident that doctors and scientists, with the help of modern technology, will most certainly come up with a cure and better treatments.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease, meaning that the function of the body to defend its self from viruses and microbes gets disrupted. Because of this the body’s immune system ends up actually harming the thing it was supposed to defend. Healthy cells and tissues get seriously affected leading afterwards to inflammation and damage to organs in the body. Practically no part of the body is safe from the ravages of this terrible disease. Symptoms may appear in people and affect them in various ways, but the most common of them are fatigue, swollen and painful joints, skin rashes, fever and even kidney damage.
Scientists and doctors have yet to come up with a complet cure for this disorder, but progresses are being made. Still treatments are available that can make a lupus patient lead a normal active life. Certain drugs that reduce the symptoms are available on the market. This disorder is characterized by two major periods: one of well being, called remission, and the other of illness called a flare up. Treatments now include the possibility of preventing and treating the flare up in patients so that they can also lead a normal life among side healthy people. Scientists are involved in intense research in order to better understand the disease so that eventually a cure can be found. With the help of universities and appropriate equipment serious progress is being made in the fight with the illness.
To be able to better apply a treatment and to reach a cure, scientist must first find out and understand who gets the disease and of course why. According to numbers many more women suffer from the disorder in comparison to men. Certain ethnic groups have been found out to be more predisposed in getting the disease. Some genetic risks have also been found to be the cause of why some people get it and others don’t. Progress in the fight against lupus is done as we speak.
Doctors and scientists are working franticly so that we can lead a better life.About the author:
