Tips For Plus Size Winter Styles
- By:Eric Menzies Menzies
Winter is a season that is often dreaded due to the cold and dreary weather. Many people think that this season requires heavy and unflattering clothing; women who are overweight have an additional challenge in avoiding these styles, because much of the clothing in plus sizes is already bulky and unflattering. However, this style of clothing isn't the only option; if you know what styles to look for when shopping for clothes, you can stay warm and comfortable in the cold weather while still looking trendy and hot.
Layers are the best way to keep warm both inside and out. Dress in thin stretchy layers as opposed to thick sweaters. You'll be less cold if you wear layers that cling to your body. Shop for long sleeved tops that stretch and purchase a thin sweatshirt that you can partially unzip when you're in doors to wear on top. This is a really attractive style that works both inside your home as well as Christmas shopping in town.
To add some style to your look, try wearing thick opaque tights with a skirt. Dependent upon the thickness of your tights and the temperature outside, you may be able to get away with a shorter skirt. Black tights are a perfect wear to show off your legs and when paired with a good pair of solid, leather boots, you'll be able to brace the winter weather. When it is really cold, wearing thick tights underneath your pants will make a huge difference, making you fell much warmer. In this way, you could also wear your favorite pair of thin trousers during the winter, and not have to retire them until warmer days.
Women who are plus-sized may wish to avoid wearing coats that come down only to their waists. Think about instead wearing a thigh-length pea coat. It makes a sophisticated fashion statement, is a great style, and is warm. You can choose to wear a basic black wool peacoat or something more extravagant, as long as it suits your own fashion tastes. If you feel good in it, you will most likely look good as well. If you want a more sweeping style, try wearing a full-length wool coat that goes down to the ankles. Be sure to check the cut of the coat, though. See if it has flare at the bottom and make sure it fits well without wrinkling. It can be too easy to get a coat in this style that is boxy, so be on the lookout for a coat that drapes well on you. Basically, choose one that is not shaped like a tube.
Worry more about icy roads and snow during the winter than your wardrobe. If you take the time to plan ahead and think outside of the box, you'll be set for the tough winter months.About the author:
