Case against the Whites
- By:Brian Balster
White sugar, white flour. They’ve infiltrated our society, providing us with quick, easy energy. But it’s too easy, it’s too quick. The whites are glorified versions of their former selves. They’ve been refined, made to look pretty, but inside, they’re empty. They have no fiber, they provide no sustenance.
Where did the whites go wrong? They started off like all the other grains and sugar canes. But then they were broken down, bleached, and processed. Their fiber was removed, their vitamins were leached out, and their very goodness was stripped away until they remained naked and pale, a once complex carbohydrate turned simple.
But we love the quick energy these simple carbohydrates provide. They get us up and going, give us a burst of energy, and for a moment make us feel happy. But this love of the whites quickly evaporates as their easy energy is burned up, and we’re left feeling empty inside, void of minerals, enzymes, vitamins: the things that keep our cells healthy, our minds clear, our bodies in optimum condition.
Our bodies crave whole foods: fresh vegetables, fruits, and nuts. The vast selection of enzymes, fiber, complex carbohydrates, proteins, fatty-acids, etc., in whole foods allows our systems to pick and choose which items are best for us. It’s like a shopping mall for our stomachs. And when our stomachs get all the nutrients they need, they will no longer ask us to continue eating. So the next time you put something in your mouth, ask yourself: Am I providing my body with the nutrients it needs to thrive?
Did you know??
Sugar, a simple carbohydrate, is absorbed very rapidly into the blood stream, causing a drastic increase in blood sugar levels.
The initial feeling of energy quickly wears off as the sugar is metabolized. As a result, your blood sugar levels become very low, leaving your body feeling even hungrier than when you started eating.
Complex carbohydrates must first be broken down by your stomach before their energy is released. This moderate absorption of energy into the blood stream keeps your blood sugar levels at a moderate level, thereby suppressing your hunger.
