Herbal Remedies to Treat Hemorrhoids

By:John Tulley

Hemorrhoids, often embarrassingly called piles, are promptly quite embarrassing. They are painful to deal with, and even more painful to treat. Imagine going to the drugstore and asking, aloud, for some hemorrhoid cream. Not so easy, isn’t it, compared with asking for cold medicine or cough syrup. Have no fear, however, because lots and lots of people do have hemorrhoids, and they do recover from it.

Hemorrhoids happen because of swollen veins in the rectal area. These swollen blood vessels are often likened to varicose veins. And, like varicose veins, they can be exacerbated by obesity or being overweight. This is one of the warnings that doctors place on persons who are nearing obesity, especially since sometimes, these persons do not eat healthy foods.

What foods should go into a healthy diet in order for a person to avoid hemorrhoids? Because hemorrhoids are exacerbated by hard feces, lessening the pain and possibly curing hemorrhoids may soon be done through softening of the feces. This can be done by drinking lots of water and eating lots of natural fiber, which you can find in oatmeal, whole grains, fresh vegetables and fruits, and wheat.

Moreover, you will need to stay away from salty foods, spicy foods, and diuretics such as coffee, tea, and soda, which can further deprive your body of water. You also need to stay away from stress: do not lift heavy things, do not scratch the affected area, and soak yourself in warm water regularly as you raise your knees. Moreover, talk to your doctor about possible remedies to your situation.

These are only a few remedies, but you might also be interested in herbal remedies to help you get rid of your hemorrhoids. Not all these herbal remedies are suitable for all people, however, so always talk to your doctor before taking any pills or rubbing on any ointments, because you may have underlying medical conditions that can make your situation much worse if you self-medicate using the wrong medication.

A common remedy for hemorrhoids is witch hazel. This herb is known to contract blood vessels and lessen bleeding, and has been used by barbers to control bleeding in their clients. You can apply this herb as a cream; put witch hazel cream containers on ice, and pat them down gently, cold, in the affected area.

If you do not have witch hazel cream, you can also apply aloe gel to the affected area. Aloe gel is not a complete medication: it will only keep the pain and burning sensation at bay, and it will thus keep you from scratching the affected area, which you might habitually do. Applying aloe gel may thus hasten your recovery from hemorrhoids.

Another herb called butcher’s broom has the same effects as aloe gel. It is applied as a cream to the affected area, and it will keep out the pain and itching sensation. As with both witch hazel cream and aloe gel, butcher’s broom cream should be applied gently to the affected area, and the affected area should not be scratched or rubbed while the cream is being applied.

Do not rely on herbal treatments alone. You need to maintain that good diet with lots of fiber, and you need to drink a lot of water to keep yourself constantly hydrated. With these remedies and a lot of consultations, you will get rid of your hemorrhoids in no time.
