Neuroleptic malignant syndrome is a life-threatening, the neurological disorder most often caused by an adverse reaction to neuroleptics. It usually presents with muscle rigidity, fever, autonomic instability and cognitive changes such as delirium, and is recorded on a creatine phosphokinase (CPK). Other drugs, the environment or psychological factors, hereditary conditions, and demographics may cause a higher risk, but so far no conclusive evidence has been found to support. The disorder usually develops within two weeks after the initial treatment with the drug, but can develop at any time of taking drugs is underway.

Quick and sharp increases in dosage can also trigger the development of the NMS. The first symptom is usually develop muscle rigidity. Symptoms include high fever, sweating, unstable blood pressure, stupor, muscular rigidity, and autonomic dysfunction. In most cases, the disease develops in the first 2 weeks of treatment with medication, but the disease can develop any time during therapy. Treatment is not always necessary, it will help to cure the disease and prevent fatal developments from occurring. The first step in treatment is generally to remove the patient from any neuroleptic or antipsychotic drugs being taken and to treat fever.

Électroconvulsivothérapie (ECT) has been used to treat NMS. It can contribute to the change of temperature, level of consciousness, and diaphoresis. Benzodiazepines and physics can be helpful. Fluid resuscitation aggressive and alkalinization of the urine may help prevent acute renal failure. Nevrolepticni are highly effective and safe drugs that have received widespread use in medicine and psychiatry. A muscle relaxant may be prescribed. Drugs dopamine, a dopamine agonist, has been reported to be useful. Severe cases may require circulatory and ventilatory support. Cooling devices and antipyretics are used to treat hyperthermia.

Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome Treatment and Prevention Tips

1. Cooling blankets and antipyretics can be used to control temperature.

2. Alkalization of urine can help prevent acute renal failure.

3. A muscle relaxant may be prescribed.

4. Dopaminergic drugs have been reported to be useful.

5. Dantrolene as monotherapy seemed to be associated with increased mortality.
