Making the parents and relatives happy and excited, when a baby comes to the world, everybody around tries to make it a point that nothing is bothering the baby or irritating it. They leave no stone unturned to ensure that the baby remains safe and grows well. So, it is obvious that anything that appears to be unusual in the baby will make the parents worried. Cradle cap may also not be an exception.
But the fact is that every mark on the body of a newborn is not the sign of something serious and every neonatal disease is also not harmful. Cradle cap is simply a skin condition and it is curable without any rigorous medical treatment. Even, it may sometime vanish without any treatment at all. Yet, parents cannot but worry about it. This is probably because of the look of the affected area.
Generally cradle cap occurs on the head of the baby; the areas where it is most likely to occur are the surroundings of the ears and the eyebrows. The affected area becomes crusty, scaly, oily and hard, a look that no parent would like to have in their baby. That is why many parents become restless and overreact at the disease. But in no way, it is a harmful disease and it should not be taken seriously. A few easy treatments are there; parents can try that to keep it under control.
Using oil on the affected area and leaving it there from six to ten hours is an effective method. The oil can be applied liberally at the night time. Both chemical and vegetable oils can be used. Next morning, the oily scales can be brushed away with something soft. The other method of curing cradle cap is to use mild shampoo. Some people also have got effective result by using paste of homely herbs. Some medicinal ointments are also available and effective in keeping the disease under control.
