Do Night Creams Really Work as Dry Skin Treatment?

By:-- --

Hair in rollers, thick night cream slathered on the face, this is the classic comic image of what a woman will go through to look good in the waking hours. But those nighttime creams and moisturizers intended to give us that fresh, dewy look in the morning really didn't do much other than cause laundry problems and, in fact, actually prevented the rejuvenation we expect from a good sleep. Unfortunately, although the products have evolved, they still cause the same problem - which is why thousands of doctors now recommend a good shielding lotion as an alternative dry skin treatment.

Sleep is the body's natural time to regroup and repair. After an active day of depleting our body's oxygen and nutrients, we rest and allow the body's resources to regroup and regenerate, and we heal. For some women, the old-fashioned night cream became part of the process. The long sleep period was assumed to facilitate deep absorption, and keep our skin from losing moisture during the night.

Although night creams have changed considerably, some are still reminiscent of mayonnaise and those that aren't still, after all the years of improvements, have three basic problems.

1. They are generally loaded with harmful chemicals.

2. They are not an effective dry skin treatment as they really only lubricate the surface, giving the appearance of moisture, instead of allowing the skin to retain its own natural moisture. Once the cream comes off, the dry skin is still there and the cream may have worsened the situation.

3. They prevent the skin from breathing.

A good shielding lotion, on the other hand, is a natural dry skin treatment that bonds with the outer layer of the skin to form a protective layer that locks in moisture while still allowing the skin to breathe. It is not greasy or oily, and stays on the skin for a long time - throughout the night, and then some.

There is also something to be said for the advantage of your significant other rolling over in the middle of the night and seeing the same you he fell in love with.

So, get rid of the sloppy night creams. A shielding lotion is a much better dry skin treatment, and it will keep you looking good night and day.
