Is Vitiligo (leucoderma) Curable?

By:M Akram Khan

There is a general feeling that vitiligo has no cure. It may be true for some of the treatment systems but is not true for all of them. Putting it straight, modern medical system has no treatment for it except for different lotions and creams to hide the patches whereas homeopathy has a definite and effective treatment for it but people do not tend to believe it for certain reasons. Factually I have myself very successfully treated a number of cases of vitiligo at my clinic and online. The results have been wonderful. One has to only understand the mechanics involved and use correct medicines and diet.

How to Treat Vitiligo
There is a general tendency to rely only on different kinds of oils and ointments for external use whereas vitiligo is not to be treated only externally like injuries and burns etc. External applications do help but they may not be the sole way of treatment because they are not likely to cure the internal disorder causing vitiligo and thus, are not likely to give a lasting cure from within. For better, complete and permanent cure, it must be treated both internally and externally with emphasis on internal treatment according to the laws of homeopathy. While planning the treatment of vitiligo, all the other symptoms need to be considered attentively. This process of considering all the symptoms is called treating the person as a whole or constitutional approach. Unless this is done, the treatment of vitiligo is not likely to meet success.

The aspect of correct diet is very important and plays a vital role in the treatment of all the diseases but has a special importance in the treatment of vitiligo. Incorrect diet can be highly counter productive and may even aggravate the disease. So, one should go strictly by the advice of the doctor and be extra careful even if one has to quit using some favorite food items.

Duration of Treatment
It depends on many factors particularly on how much is the spread. While it does get cured, the process of cure is very slow. Vitiligo does not yield easily but somehow most people are not prepared to accept this time span. They want a medicine, which could cure them very "quickly", may be in a few weeks or so. They need to understand that vitiligo cannot be cured overnight. It takes months, not weeks for complete cure. Larger the spread more will be the time required. Since this disease does not cause an emergency, many would spend years and years in search of a miraculous medicine or treatment but would not like to go for regular treatment. They choose to continue their search without realizing that they are unconsciously allowing the disease to spread more and more and dig itself deeper and deeper, thus increasing the cure time and complicating the treatment. If you are a vitiligo sufferer, go for proper treatment.
